Marking Presence
McMahon Gallery
A group exhibition examining human presence and movement in space and time. All works are created using the artist’s or dancers’ bodies in an attempt to both record and examine the ephemeral nature of human presence. Featuring Rudi Monterroso (CO), Marco Pinter (CA), and Erin Wiersma (KS?; Represented by Robischon Gallery?). Curated by Rebecca Cuscaden?.?
Less Ephemeral by Marco Pinter
Polly Addison Gallery
Solo exhibition of the Less Ephemeral series by Marco Pinter (CA). Pinter explores the ephemeral, impermanent nature of dance and attempts to find areas of permanence through thermal photography of the heat created from dancers’ bodies and their movements over time.
Marginalia by Joel Swanson
MacMillan Family Lobby and Hand-Rudy Gallery
?Solo exhibition by Joel Swanson; based in Denver, Colo. and represented by David B. Smith Gallery. ?Marginalia explores the fundamental but often unnoticed structures of language. Paper, computer screens, and monitors all influence practices of writing and reading, yet due to their ubiquity and ostensible “blankness” these technologies are often taken for granted. Through erasure, repetition, and decontextualization the works in this show hope to highlight how these tools shape our writing, reading, and thinking.
An accompanying body of work in the Hand-Rudy Gallery explores the relationship between names and commodity, specifically names from the Modernist and contemporary art canon. The series of images decontextualize artist’s names from their monographs found in furniture and décor company mail-order catalogs.
