As awareness for the ongoing gender pay gap increases, the Boulder branch of the nationwide American Associate of University Women (AAUW) is stepping up to further advance equity for women within Boulder Valley by hosting Work Smart salary negotiation workshops to coach women how to identify and articulate their personal value which leads to equitable pay.

On Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, AAUW Boulder will host its annual holiday celebration and fundraiser at the View of the World Gallery in Boulder welcoming local female leaders, entrepreneurs, business owners, and those interested in supporting women’s rights. All proceeds benefit AAUW Boulder’s Work Smart program allowing additional workshops to be hosted in Boulder Valley free of charge to women.

Tickets to the celebration can be purchased online through November 15 for $35 and include: open bar with wine and beer donated by Hazel’s Beverage World, food catered by Sage and Savory, live music by a Laurie Dameron, singer and guitarist, cash door prize, and a silent auction.

While Boulder ranks #1 in the country for the number of female entrepreneurs with Denver close behind at #3, Colorado ranks #19 for its gender wage gap as of 2013 when women 16+ earned $.80 to the dollar compared to their male counterparts.
According to Biz West, “If women in the state earned the same as comparable men, Colorado’s economy would grow by an additional 9.2 percent, or 3 percent of the state’s 2014 GDP.”

"The gender pay gap won’t close until 2119 at the current rate of change and AAUW Boulder would like to empower women to close that gap. Won't you help by supporting our AAUW Work Smart initiatives?" Marilyn Thomas Leist, Ed.D. - President, AAUW Boulder.

Programming like AAUW Boulder’s Work Smart workshops will help Boulder Valley women avoid long-term consequences of lost earning potential.
